Making a business, one day at a time

Day 2 – Find and develop your best site concept

This is going to be a tough one.

I have already had two failed SBI sites and here I am creating another one.  I know the system works.  I do have one successful site Queen of Peace Partners in Ministry that is growing each day and now has an average visitor count of 25, up one from two days again and yesterday I had 157 visitors.  I know it works.

So how do you develop a site concept – a profitable one at that.  I read the Action Guide for Day 2, listened and watch the Action Guide Video and have determined that this may be the most important day of the entire session.  Your site concept.  The rest of the action guide and your busines depends on the right concept.  Choose the wrong one (like I did twice) and you will have to start over or quit – Quitting is not an option.

Day 2 recommends that you pick out three site concepts that interest you, that you are passionate about, know about (or willing to learn) and that may have high ROI.

So how do you pick a site concept.  Just write down all the subjects that you may be interested in.  I have a son that is a chef, one of my sites was for him and his resturant, I was interested, I developed the site, but was unable to provide the content that was needed to keep the pages current and interesting, I don’t know how to cook.  I am interested in helping other people, other businesses, especially small businesses, I am interested in my work which is working in the highway construction industry, I am also interested where I live and doing Quickbooks support and training.  I have alot of high interest site concepts, how do you narrow it down to just three.

By using the tools that SiteBuild It provides, namely the Brainstormer.  It is a tools that provides the supply, demand and profitablity for each of your site concepts.

The action guide outlines the values that you should be looking for as you work through the keyword list as you evaluate the key factors of each site concept.

A site concepts that delivers more keywords is better, the overall profitability (higher demand, lower supply and higher profitabilty the better.  You need one that is not too broad, and not to narrow.  Another factor is your knowledge about the site concept.  Do you know enough or will you have to do a lot of research , the excuse of staying at the Holiday Inn Express will not work here.  How high is your passion?  Like I told my children, find something that you like, and then find someone to pay you to do it.  I guess that is why one of my kids is a business owners, a lawyer, a chef and a high school teacher.  They all love what they are doing.  My son, the chef can cook a gourmet meal out of almost nothing, and really enjoy it.

Lastly you need to review the monetization potential of each of your site concepts.

I will work through the site concepts and narrow the list to only three, do the research and report back the final site concept.

Working and then to day 3

Day 1 – Creating a business one day at a time

We are going to build a business, one day at a time.  I will be following the Site Build It! process and will work through the Site Build It Action Guide, one day at a time, recording notes here in the Blog that will include all of the steps that we have done in building the website.

Depending on how the process plays out, we may create pages with appropriate content for the SSBs or we may develop separate websites for each SSB.

Hopefully, at the end of the creation process, I will have a step by step record of what works for building a small business, what doesn’t work, what I could have done better or quicker or maybe what I should not have done at all.

By keeping daily notes, I should be able to transfer the knowledge to someone else.

I have a similar website that is used to establish pages for supporters of Queen of Peace Catholic Church.  The website is named – Queen of Peace Partners in Ministry.  I hope to put to the test what I have learned in building this website to building a business using Site Build It.  I think it will work.

Ok, lets get started.

Introduction

Video included an overview of how the guide works and an overview of the different tools to help you through the process.  The overall portion also contains a checklist to allow you to keep track of where you are in the process.  I would highly recommend it.

The overview looked at the first 5 days which is to prepare for the business and then 6 – 10 building the actual business.

The overview was very helpful as that it provided information of where you could find information as you needed it and placed a lot of emphasis on using the various tools especially the Brainstormer and the Tips and Techniques HQ pages.

The first day only took me one afternoon of reading through the documentation and looking at the video and provided a lot of information centered around the topic of Day 1 – Master the All important basics and building the foundation of your business.

Day 1 had basically 3 steps

  1. Understand the difference between Preselling and Selling
  2. Act upon the Preselling reality
  3. and Monetize! Maximize conversion rate and profits.

The video was easier to listen to than the hard copy that I printed out and I was able to take notes on the hard copy, so I would suggest printing a copy and then listen to the video.  A great combination.

But the bottom line is it is up to you – you decide what success is and then go for it.  Don’t think too much about day 6 until you master day 1 – day 5.

I am looking forward to the rest of it, on to day 2 tomorrow.
